RICHARDSON POLICE DEPARTMENT
We are providing an update regarding a report filed on August 12, 2024. On Monday, around 8:20 a.m., a resident alerted our department about a suspicious vehicle that seemed to be following a student walking to school. The vehicle was seen repeatedly driving up and down the 900 block of Melrose Drive, as captured by home surveillance footage. The student, feeling uneasy, sought refuge at a nearby residence. The driver did not make any verbal contact or approach the student. Although no license plate information was available for the vehicle, the surveillance video provided enough details for detectives to begin searching for the suspect.
With the assistance of our School Resource Officers, Richardson Police Department detectives were able to locate and identify the vehicle and its driver. Interviews with the driver, the student, and the student’s family confirmed the details of the incident. It was found that the driver was dropping off a family member at JJ Pearce High School. After reviewing the driver's actions, detectives confirmed that no direct contact or communication with the student occurred. While the driver’s behavior is concerning, there were no criminal elements present to warrant charges.
