On August 25, 2024, at 4:11 a.m., Richardson Police Department officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1500 block of Fair Oaks Drive in response to a domestic violence incident in-progress. The victim reported that she had been assaulted by her boyfriend, who was armed with a weapon. 

Upon arrival, the first officer on the scene found the suspect in the garage, wielding a large knife. Despite repeated, loud verbal commands to drop the weapon, the suspect ignored these instructions. He exited the garage, moved through the backyard, towards the officer, causing her to retreat backwards away from the approaching suspect. The suspect made his way to a parked pickup truck in the rear driveway, where he reached inside, then suddenly turned toward the officer, brandishing the knife in threatening manner. In response, the officer discharged her firearm once, hitting the suspect in the upper body. 

Emergency medical assistance was provided by officers until paramedics arrived and transported the suspect to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

In accordance with departmental policy, the officer has been placed on administrative leave and the Dallas County District Attorney has been notified. The officer has served with the Richardson Police Department for two years.
