RICHARDSON POLICE DEPARTMENT
Richardson Police Department detectives continue to investigate an aggravated robbery that occurred on May 4, 2026, at approximately 4:00 p.m. in the 1400 block of East Belt Line Road.
The suspect has been identified as 38-year-old Jarvis Martel Hamlin. Hamlin entered an AT&T retail store, displayed a handgun, and robbed multiple employees. Hamlin then exited the store walking eastbound. A store employee provided a description of the suspect and confirmed he was armed with a handgun.
Within minutes, responding officers arrived in the area and located Hamlin walking along the sidewalk in the 1500 block of East Belt Line Road. Officers issued verbal commands for Hamlin to stop. Hamlin then turned toward an officer, raised a handgun, and shot at the officer. The officer returned fire, striking Hamlin multiple times. Officers took Hamlin into custody and immediately provided medical aid until Richardson Fire Department paramedics arrived. Hamlin was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in stable condition. The firearm involved was recovered at the scene.
Hamlin is currently charged with Aggravated Robbery and Attempted Capital Murder of a Peace Officer. This remains an active investigation. Detectives are requesting anyone with video footage of the incident contact the Richardson Police Department at 972-744-4893.
The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office is conducting an independent investigation into the officer-involved shooting, in accordance with standard protocol. Per Richardson Police Department policy, the officer involved, who has been with the Department for 10 years, has been placed on administrative leave.
