The Richardson Police Department was involved in an officer-involved shooting early Thursday morning following the pursuit of a suspect wanted in connection with an aggravated robbery.
At approximately 2:12 a.m., the Plano Police Department notified Richardson patrol officers that it had lost sight of an aggravated robbery suspect during a vehicle pursuit after the suspect entered Richardson near Custer Road and West Renner Road. Officers were advised that the aggravated robbery had occurred earlier in The Colony and that the suspect was believed to be armed with a handgun.
Richardson officers located the suspect vehicle that refused to stop, leading officers on a pursuit that continued into the City of Dallas.
During the pursuit, the suspect fired his weapon at pursuing officers. Richardson officers returned fire while continuing the pursuit. The suspect vehicle eventually became disabled and came to a stop near Alpha Road and Hughes Lane in Dallas.
After the vehicle stopped, officers gave the suspect commands to exit the vehicle with his hands raised. Upon exiting the vehicle, the suspect fired at officers, prompting multiple officers to return fire. The suspect was struck by gunfire and was removed from the vehicle by officers, who immediately began providing first aid.
The suspect, identified as 34-year-old, Ryan Edward Drouin, was transported by Dallas Fire-Rescue to a local hospital, where the suspect is being treated for injuries that are believed to be non-life-threatening. No Richardson police officers were injured during the incident.
Because the officer-involved shooting occurred within the City of Dallas, the Dallas Police Department is leading the criminal investigation. Consistent with established protocol, the Dallas County District Attorney's Office is also conducting an independent investigation of the incident.
In accordance with Richardson Police Department policy, the Richardson officers involved have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation. Neither the Plano Police Department nor the Dallas Police Department were involved in the officer-involved shooting.
