RICHARDSON POLICE DEPARTMENT
The Richardson Police Department is investigating a fatality crash involving three vehicles that occurred Sunday evening on South Central Expressway.
At approximately 8:55 p.m. on August 30, 2026, officers responded to the southbound lanes of the 100 block of South Central Expressway after receiving several 911 calls reporting a major crash.
Preliminary information indicates the driver of a Ford pickup truck, with a blown tire, was traveling southbound at a slow speed in the left lane when it was struck from behind by an Infiniti sedan. Both vehicles came to a stop in the left lane. The drivers of both vehicles and a passenger in the Infiniti exited their vehicles.
A second crash occurred when a Volkswagen sedan approached the scene and took evasive action to avoid the two stopped vehicles. The Volkswagen struck the driver of the Infiniti, identified as 36-year-old Michael Barrera, who was standing near the center concrete divider. Barrera was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Volkswagen also struck the Ford pickup and its driver. The driver of the Ford pickup was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger in the Infiniti and the driver of the Volkswagen were not injured.
The Richardson Police Special Crash Investigation Team responded to the scene and will complete the investigation.
