Certified Texas Officers

Applicants with prior law enforcement experience in Texas may be eligible for lateral entry. Police Officers that qualify for the lateral entry program will complete the Richardson Police Department mini-academy as well as a modified Field Training period. Lateral entry eligibility is based upon law enforcement experience prior to the date of employment with the City of Richardson.

Basic Requirements - Texas Lateral Entry
  • Minimum of 2 years continuous experience as a peace officer in a municipal police department.
  • Break in service of no more than 12 months prior to the date of application.
  • Must possess valid Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Peace Officer License.
 Texas TCOLE Certified Experienced Officers
START $72,380 (STEP D)
1 YEAR $75,989 (STEP E)
2 YEARS $79,833 (STEP F)
3 YEARS $82,219 (STEP G)

 
Out-of-State Officers

Applicants with prior law enforcement experience from out-of-state may be eligible for lateral entry. Police Officers who qualify for the lateral entry program will complete the Richardson Police Department Police Academy, mini-academy as well as Field Training. Lateral entry eligibility is based upon law enforcement experience prior to the date of employment with the City of Richardson.

Basic Requirements - Out-of-State Lateral Entry

  • Minimum of 2 years continuous experience as a certified peace officer from an out-of-state municipal police department
  • Break in service of no more than 12 months
  • Will attend the Basic Police Academy at the Plano-Richardson Police Academy and will obtain a TCOLE Peace Officer License at the end of the academy.
 Out-of-State Experienced Officers 
       START  $68,919 (STEP C)
      1 YEAR  $72,380 (STEP D)
   2 YEARS  $75,989 (STEP E)
   3 YEARS  $79,833 (STEP F)
   4 YEARS  $82,219 (STEP G)

Accelerated Pay Scale
Officers must successfully complete a six month probationary period. Step increases after that point, as high as top pay, are considered annually and are based on merit.
